"Over the top" (Snobbery)

"Let the cobbler stick to his last." I was brought up under that motto. Apparently some of those people who count themselves into the "Celebrity world” have never heard of this expression. It means that you better stick to your own business instead of trying to do something you have no idea off. In my opinion artists, movie stars, football players and other kind of celebrities can best stick to their profession. But no, completely absorbed in their own "name horniness", every self-respecting celebrity is increasingly concerned with things that have absolutely nothing to do with their original skills. Nowadays it is very normal that you own your own brand of perfume, clothing, underwear and god knows what other stuff. And some even make it a sport to "buy" as many adoption children as possible as if they were puppies from an animal shelter....

Well I hear some of you already thinking; "What is the man so worried about?"

Well, I'll tell you;

From my own experience I know that putting your own brand of wine on the market is no mean feat. In the first place, a decent wine must be found that meets all personal requirements (and that is a long search due to the large number of bodegas) and then the whole process of negotiation, label design, bottle selection, establish a brand, obtain approval from the government and a number of such time-consuming activities (of which tasting the many different types of wines is the best part). As an entrepreneur I have been working on it for years, I have put my whole soul and bliss into it, resulting in my own brand of wine that I could rightly be proud of.

But if, for example, your name is Angelina Jolie and / or Brad Pitt, then of course you will do it differently. Then you just buy an estate with vineyards, let a prominent bodega make your wine, and you have your own wine brand there. The winery made them 6000 bottles of their "Miraval Rosé". And in less than 5 hours this stock was sold to 1000 people who were 'allowed' to buy 6 bottles. Apparently it is no longer about taste here, because I cannot imagine that all 1000 have tasted the wine beforehand, but the fact that “Brangelina” is the seller is apparently sufficient land for purchase ...

Even heavy metal band "Motörhead" nowadays has its own wines, one in Bag in Box packaging (that is a box containing a plastic bag of wine with a sort of tap system, just like the home taps of beer brands), one red and one rose. Funny detail is that the Bag in Box looks like a guitar amplifier and is therefore "the first rock wine on earth". But here again as far as I'm concerned; Stick to yourself and make music and leave wine sales to people who know it… Moreover, the introduction of these wines was not entirely without problems. In Iceland these were immediately banned because a wine with the name Motörhead would make too much of a link with rough behavior and drug abuse. And now bands as AC / DC, Iron Maiden, Slayer and Whitesnake also have their own beverage brands…

Even the British Queen Elizabeth wanted her own wines. A vineyard is being laid in Windsor Castle Park with the intention of growing grapes for its own brand of sparkling wines. These wines will be made according to the "traditional method" (similar to Champagne).

I get Antonio Banderas for the benefit of the doubt. Today he too has his own wine called "Anta Banderas". This comes from Villalba de Duero (Ribera del Duero, Burgos, Spain). Apparently, he has been dreaming of producing his own wine since he was a young man, and finally he launched his own brand in 2009. In my opinion it remains dubious that he holds "signing sessions" in which the bottles of wine are provided with his signature. So that makes me wonder if it´s really about the wine or just another money providing business…

With this article I may have given you the impression that I am somewhat jealous of the above people, but that is not the case. I just believe that you have a professional for every profession, and that you must respect this, even if you have loads of money and fame. Cause isn´t it a fact that you should buy wine because you like the taste of it instead of buying it because it has a celebrity name on it?

Salud!
